An ominous look into the juvenile fanboy mind.
Rickie and J.T. are from the wrong side of the tracks. The two high school seniors are more inclined to be cutting class than furthering their education. With the intentions of chugging beer and causing an uproar, the pair elects to skip school and instead, set out for a deserted psychiatric hospital. In the recesses of the building, they locate a door that has certainly not been opened for ages. Once inside, they are stunned to find a dormant, nude woman (Jenny Spain) shackled to a table. Mysteriously, she can not communicate and is in a trance-like state. With no concept of who she is, why she is chained and how long she’s been there, the boys are left with a decision to be made. Scorned by women his own age, T.J. (Noah Segan) is hell-bent on utilizing the woman for his own carnal needs. Rickie (Shiloh Fernandez) , the more sensible of the two, disapproves of this idea and refuses to participate. Promptly, the boys discover that their beautiful detainee is evidently some sort of zombie incubus. None the less, T.J. reiterates his intentions of retaining her for his lustful desires. The clash between the two boys, inevitably tests their friendship. However, the situation as a whole, proves to test their human will and overall life principles. Director, Marcel Sarmiento, brings us this disconcerting adolescent male fantasy.
This film could most definitely be qualified as a Splatter Film - as in a film that portrays graphic gore and violence, using special effects. As well, it could also be described as a Gorno Film - Gore/porno, you get it. Whatever you call it - it’s torture porn at it’s finest. I’ll be honest, the plot of this movie vaguely interested me. I wasn’t wholly offended by the subject matter. In fact, occasionally the story pokes fun at how inexperienced and volatile the main characters are towards members of the opposite sex. I’d say the most reprehensible element of this movie, was the fact that they had Deadgirl tied up in a new position every time she was presented. Sadly, the preeminent theme of the story is depicted in the first 15 minutes or so - leaving us with a monotonous summation. Absurd and campy at times, this film gives us an unusual and thought provoking concept, with a humdrum story. Number 28, Marcel Sarmiento & Gadi Harel's Deadgirl.
You can stream Deadgirl on Hulu Plus - or rent of DVD through Amazon DVD, Amazon Bluray and Netflix DVD.
